About

Hi and welcome to my website.

I'm Daniel Wissa, a Software Consultant & Developer living in Melbourne. I'm currently working as a contractor trading as Wissa Technology hence the logo on this website! I specialise in .NET development ranging in everything from ASP.NET and SQL server to cloud development using Windows Azure. I'm a Microsoft Certified Developer and I have worked in teams of various sizes such as those in small ISV shops and also in large teams in corporate environments. The same goes for the size of projects that I've been involved in.

I graduated with a B.Com. degree in 2005 from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand where I studied Information Systems & Computer Science. Below is a outline of what I've done in my career so far in the past 5+ years, and the journey continues.

THE BEGINNING

I started my journey in the IT career paths by choosing to study Computer Science & IT at Canterbury University in Christchurch, New Zealand. I studied my degree as a B.Com. instead of a B.Sc. and the main reason for that was that it allowed you to do more Commerce/Business IT courses that would've been possible under a BSc structure. As a result, I got to do all sorts of courses from pogramming languages and software engineering to eCommerce & Management of Information Systems before graduating in 2005 and I believe that this provided me with the best foundation to build my professional career on.

INVOLVEMENT WITH MICROSOFT & THE .NET USER GROUPS

In my second year at univeristy I got selected to be the first Microsoft Student Representative - now known as Student Partner (https://www.microsoftstudentpartners.com/) - and that put me in the first step towards building a careeer in the real IT world. During this program I got to be involved in local .NET user group events and I ran the Christchurch .NET user group in 2007 & 2008. I also started blogging during this time and after finishing my role as a Microsoft Student Parter was involved with a number of students from around the world working along with Mcirsoft in Redmond on www.thespoke.net (http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2004/mar04/03-23StrengthentheSpokenetPR.mspx )

GETTING INTO THE REAL WORLD

I began my professional IT career in 2006 and I've worked in several companies and had several roles since. I worked on Cost Control applications for the construction industry built in 4th Dimension (www.4d.com), .NET applications using Web Services & SQL Databases, CMS packages tailed for Online Digital Media along with custom development and maintenance for large websites that run on the CMS system, Financial systems including software products for Internet Banking systems and back office management of those systems.

In addition, I've also been involved in managing backups, Maintaining Microsoft Exchange Server, backup software and other IT Admin tasks in several of my roles during my career. Furthermore, I've worked in small team environments and larger teams located in more than one country. Whilst I haven't officially lead teams of people I've provided support to testing & production teams in several projects I've worked on and mentored and provided assistance to teammates during project work. Furthermore I've managed the builds and releases of software and their associated tasks into production in several of my roles.

Some of my strongest skills in addition to the technical side include ability to quickly learn and adapt to anything that gets thrown at me, ability to find solutions and solve problems and also strong awareness of the latest technology offerings and their potential. I'm also an all round nice guy who's easy to deal and work with.

THE FUTURE

I guess that depends on the direction my career takes me. Looking back at the 5+ years I've already spent I believe I've made some good choices, met some great people and continue to do my best to build on both of these. I enjoy working with Microsoft Technologies and would hope to one day build or be part of something big that's built on Microsoft technologies and can make an impact on a large number of people. After all, what's a better rewarding feeling than knowing that you've helped/been part of making a positive difference/impact on someone else's life!

I've recently developed interenst in Windows Azure so maybe I'll get to do something cool with that technology some day. And of course, my future could also depend on you! If you think my skills & experience aligns well to something that you, or someone you know is working on then why not drop me a line via the Contact page and take it from there!
